History
The Massachusetts e-Health Institute (MeHI) is the state's entity for health care innovation, technology and competitiveness. Established by an act of the Massachusetts Legislature, MeHI is responsible for advancing the dissemination of health information technology across the commonwealth, including the deployment of electronic health records systems in all health care provider settings that are networked through a statewide health information exchange.

HIT Strategic Plan Approved
April 15, 2010 - After approval by the Health IT Council and MTC Executive Board, the Massachusetts eHealth Institute, a division of the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative, presents the final version of “The Commonwealth of Massachusetts 2010 Health Information Technology Strategic Plan.” The development of this plan would not have been possible without the committed involvement of so many individuals, from the wide variety of key healthcare stakeholders to the many staff members, who so generously offered their time and expertise to this plan.

Draft HIT Plan
From January 29 to February 16, the Massachusetts Draft State-wide HIT plan was made available for public comment.

Governor Patrick supports MeHI's REC Application
September 11, 2009 - In a letter submitted to The Office of the National Coordinator, Governor Deval Patrick stated, "It is my pleasure to write this letter offering my enthusiastic support for the Massachusetts eHealth Institute to be selected as the Regional Extension Center for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts."

Secretary Bigby Sends Letter to U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Sebelius
August 3, 2009 - Massachusetts Secretary of Health and Human Services JudyAnn Bigby has sent a letter to U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius to inform her of the steps MeHI and the Commonwealth are taking to promote cost containment, transparency, and efficiency in the delivery of quality health care. The comprehensive statewide plan currently under development will align the Commonwealth's priorities with those of the federal Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act. Meaningful Use of Electronic Health Records
June 25, 2009 - Secretary of Health and Human Services JudyAnn Bigby files comments on the draft recommendations for the definition of meaningful use of electronic health records (EHR) which CMS will incorporate into its incentive program for physicians and hospitals in the years 2011 to 2015.
